From user flow to prototype

UX and UI agency for user flows and prototyping

As a UX and UI agency, we develop digital products with a clear structure. With user flows and prototyping, we make user journeys visible and tangible—the foundation for digital applications that work intuitively and delight.

User flows and prototypes are the foundation of every user-friendly website.

They show early on how visitors can move through your site, where friction occurs, and how content is ideally structured. Prototypes make these processes visible and testable early—before time and budget flow into development.

At SANMIGUEL, we develop user flows in close coordination with you and your team. We analyze goals, content, and target groups to define the right paths.

With clickable prototypes, we make these journeys tangible and review them in usability tests with real users—through observation, feedback, and focused interaction tests. This is how we ensure your digital project works intuitively and supports your business goals in the best possible way.

Benefits of user flows and prototypes

Clarity

You see early on how users are guided through your site.

Efficiency

Prototypes save time and budget by preventing missteps.

Transparency

Everyone involved understands the flow and structure—without jargon.

Testability

Ideas can be validated before they’re coded.

Focus

We focus on what matters: clear goals, clear paths.

Experience

The result is digital applications that are intuitive and pleasant to use.

For user flows and prototypes to unfold their full impact, a clear approach is needed. We combine strategic thinking with design know-how and technical expertise. From the first analysis to the clickable prototype, we proceed in clearly defined steps.

Mit einem Ergebnis, das uns stolz macht – und einem Prozess, der richtig Spaß gemacht hat.”

From idea to an intuitive user experience

Especially in mobile applications—where every touch counts—the flow determines success or drop-off. A great app is therefore built first and foremost in the testing field. Prototyping is the decisive step to make ideas tangible, validate user flows, and identify early what works—and what doesn’t. With wireframes, click dummies, and high-fidelity prototypes, the user experience can be tested realistically before the first line of code is written. This saves time, reduces costs, and prevents misdevelopment.

Fortytools – Less frustration. More flow.

For Fortytools, a smart app for people management, the focus was a smooth mobile user experience. With precise user flows and realistic prototypes, the app was optimized step by step—for clear processes, intuitive handling, and maximum everyday efficiency.

The result: mobile UX that simply works—fast, clear, and built for professionals who don’t want to waste time.

A Strong Start

Every bold vision deserves a clear path. We advise with honesty, insight, and zero pressure.

Frequently asked questions about user flows and prototyping

What are user flows and why are they important?

User flows show the path users take through a website or application—from the first interaction to the goal. They make it visible which steps are logical, where friction occurs, and how content should be arranged. This ensures user guidance is clear, intuitive, and efficient—the foundation for a successful user experience.

What are prototypes and why are they important?

Prototypes are clickable models of a website or application that let you test structure, design, and functions realistically—before the actual development begins. They make concepts tangible, reveal optimization potential, and ensure everyone involved shares the same picture of the end product. This minimizes risk and creates confidence for implementation.

What types of prototypes are there—and how do they differ?

Prototypes come in different levels of detail—from a quick scribble to an interface that’s almost final. Depending on the project phase, goal, and audience, different types are used:

  • Paper prototype (low-fidelity):
A simple, often hand-drawn visualization of the core idea. Perfect for early feedback on structure, user flow, and logic—without design effort.
  • Wireframe prototype (low to mid-fidelity):
Structures the content and shows how users navigate through the application. Focus: function, not look.
  • Clickable prototype (mid-fidelity):
First interactions are simulated to test usability and flow. Ideal for user tests and targeted optimization.
  • High-fidelity prototype (hi-fi):
Visually and functionally very close to the final product—incl. branding, colors, and typography. Often used for internal alignment or client presentation.
  • Functional prototype (code-based / interactive prototype):
The most technically advanced prototype—already built with real code. Used to test logic, animations, or integrations realistically.

A clearly defined prototype saves time, costs, and misunderstandings—and ensures design decisions are based on real user experiences.

What’s the difference between user flows and wireframes?

User flows show the logical path users take through an application—step by step from entry to goal. Wireframes, on the other hand, visualize that structure as layout sketches: they show where content, navigation, and functions are placed on individual screens. Together, they form the foundation for a clear and user-friendly website.

For which types of projects should prototyping be used?

Prototyping pays off for any project where user guidance, design, and functionality are critical—such as websites, web platforms, or apps. It’s especially useful for complex structures or new ideas that need testing before implementation. This creates early clarity on whether a concept works and where adjustments are needed.

How do prototypes help save time and money?

Prototypes make ideas visible and tangible early—before investing in development. This helps identify and avoid errors, ambiguities, or unnecessary features in time. The result: fewer revision loops, lower costs, and a faster overall project timeline.

Which tools do you use for user flows and prototyping?

We primarily work with Figma because it’s perfect for user flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes—and makes collaboration easy. In addition, we use tools like Miro for analysis, workshops, and mapping.

How do usability tests take place and which tools do you use?

We run usability tests remotely or in live sessions with real users. We observe how they use prototypes, where they get stuck, and which steps feel intuitive. For testing, we use Figma to evaluate click paths, feedback, and behavior precisely. This gives us concrete insights that flow directly into optimization.
